Comments on the Blog

The blog let students keep in touch with each other. If we were absent or forgot the homework we could go to the blog and find out what we had to do. I did not use it very much for this because I went to school every day and so I always knew what I had to do. When I did use it I went there to write my feelings about things. I wrote about how I felt about the research and what I learned. I wrote about the book project and the thoughts I had about “Cross Bones” and what Cathy Reichs was writing in that book. I wrote about the research that I did on credit cards. Really though I thought that the writing in the blog was too much extra work. In this course, I had enough to do with the homework. Writing comments about the homework was too much. It did take time from me to do my homework. I did learn about giving comments and being part of a group who were studying the same thing. It was something that was extra to the course but I really believe it took time from me doing my best homework.

My favourite unit is Canadian English

I liked this unit because I learned the differences between the three different English speakers which are the American English, British English, and the Canadian English. It was interesting to have knowledge about the different accents. Also it was interesting to know that the Canadian English is in the Middle English unlike American or British English that they are using heavy English or accent. I think people who are speaking English as a second language are satisfied with the Canadian accent because they find it easier and clearer to understand. I found an interesting point about this unit because I learned that American people and Canadian are close to each other even with their expressions.

I think everybody in class is interested in this unit because it was something new to learn as second language speakers.

Book Project cross bones

This book is talking about mystery story of losing bones of Jesus. Also, this book kind of religious story which talking about the three religions thoughts which are Christianity, Jew and Islam. These three religions have similarity of thoughts. The author mentioned the similar thoughts of these three religions about the bones of Jesus. Also, the author integrated real information with unreal information in order to create an interesting story. The strange thing that happened in the story is the story ended with love story. This love story is linked to story of losing the bones of Jesus. I think this is a complicated story for second language students because it’s not easy to understand every part of the story.

During the presentation, I presented the religions part because really I wanted explains the thoughts of these three religions. Also, because I know the audience will find difficulties if I didn’t explain this part. Without explain this part no body will understand the rest of the story. I found it’s not easy to explain these thoughts because the have common points.

Credit cards presentation

I thought planning this subject or doing a map for the presentation it will be easy. But, actually it was taking me a lot of time and it was not easy to make a map to be well organized. I spent couple days on mapping or planning to avoid confusion. I was thinking about how to make the presentation interesting for everybody and also how to reach the points. Then I came up with the idea of giving some credit cards applications to the audience to create a center of attention. That most of the audience liked this kind of advertising.

These kinds of good qualities of good presentation associated with some problems. One of these problems is the information is too much. Because I wanted to cut down some information to make it shorter but I couldn’t because all the information is linked together. So all I have to is to talk about everything. The second problem is that I don’t feel comfortable in a public speech. Because I practiced many times I felt less stressful and more comfortable during my presentation.

Credit card Research paper
At the begging of doing this paper I thought it’s impossible to finish it in two weeks that associated with reading more and more books and taking notes. Then when I started I found some difficulties with collecting information because my topic was huge especially for the main ideas that I chose. In general, the difficulties that I had are collecting some books and reading them. When I finished reading them, I found that the information which exists in these books is not leading to the point that I needed. Also, these books are published many years ago so I thought these books are useless. Then I decided to look for articles instead of looking for books because I thought articles are easier than books and clearer for collecting information. But it doesn‘t mean that I did not use any books, I used two books which are recently published and the other information that came from articles. I think these kinds of difficulties could help me in the future and to get used to it to be easy for my future studies. I realized that it is my first time doing a research paper in English so for sure it’s difficult. But I think it‘s a good starting.

"oh, great spirit, keep me from ever judging a man until i've walked in his moccasins"

This expression has a good meaning about judging. We should not give any judgment for whatever the judgment is until we have the knowledge or the information about this judgment. As we are students, we should not judge our parents because we don’t have the responsibility that they have. They have jobs and the responsibility of taking care of the house and children. This is so hard a position so we cannot judge their situation until we live in their position and have children and those kinds of responsibilities. Also we should not judge any religion without having any information about this religion. Because another religion might teach nice things and have kind thoughts in this religion that we never thought about.
All over the world there are different cultures that not everybody knows about. For example, in the Middle East and in Italy, men kiss each other while they are shaking their hands. This traditional way of men greeting means taking care of each other, respecting each other and empathizing with each other. But, many people do not understand that custom and they don’t have knowledge of this beautiful habit. They just see it from a bad way. Like in North America people think this is sign of homosexuality. Of course they are wrong. To make a good judgment about what is happening they have to have the knowledge of this cultural first then they give their judgment.
